Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw Kis-My-Ft2 defeat Yonezu Kenshi and DA PUMP. DA PUMP is back this week, facing off against two newcomers. Find out what Ronald thought of the songs that topped the singles charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!
Oricon #1: / Billboard Hot 100 #1: King & Prince – Memorial (not released digitally or for streaming)
This is so cheesy. It’s super juvenile. It makes me cringe and think of a host club. It’s as if a bunch of hosts tried to make a sappy, romantic, boyish boyband. 2/10
Oricon Digital Singles #1 / Billboard Download Songs #1: LiSA – ADAMAS (not released physically / Billboard Hot 100 #4 / not released for streaming)
I’m not a fan of this. I don’t like how overly rock it is. It’s quite a dated notion. Speaking of dated, that bridge with the semi-rap bit made me think of the early 00s rap rock, like Limp Bizkit. 3/10
Billboard Streaming Songs #1: DA PUMP – U.S.A. (Oricon #16 / Billboard Hot 100 #2 / Oricon Digital Singles #4 / Billboard Download Songs #3)
Same review as before: The eurobeat, the eurobeat, the eurobeat… I’m a bit of a sucker for it. It’s just so fun and nostalgic. It doesn’t take itself too seriously. It is what it is. 6.5/10
