SMAP and ONE OK ROCK Top the Digital Charts for the Week of 1/13 – 1/19

Two older songs top the digital charts this week.

SMAP’s 2003 hit “Sekai ni Hitotsu Dake no Hana” topped Recochoku this week, due to the group’s rumored disbandment and also due to a buying campaign among fans which had the goal of preventing the disbandment. SMAP had several other songs in the Recochoku top 50 this week for the same reasons: 2000’s “Orange” at #4, 1998’s “Yozora no Mukou” at #11, 2000’s “Lion Heart” at #13, 1994’s “Original Smile” at #21, 1992’s “BEST FRIEND” at #37, 1996’s “SHAKE” at #41, and 2005’s “Triangle” at #45.

ONE OK ROCK’s “Wherever You Are”, from their 2010 album “Niche Syndrome”, topped iTunes this week, due to its usage in a docomo / Apple commercial.

SMAP’s music isn’t available on iTunes, hence why there isn’t a surge in SMAP songs there.
