#1 Song Review: Week of 3/29 – 4/4 (Sexy Zone v. Austin Mahone)

Hello, Arama! Japan readers and welcome to this week’s installment of #1 Song Review! Last week saw Nogizaka46 defeat Doughnuts Hole. This week, we have two newcomers facing off against each other. Find out what various staff members thought of the songs that topped the physical and digital charts this week and share your thoughts on them too!

Oricon #1 / Billboard #1: Sexy Zone – ROCK THA TOWN (not released digitally)

Ronald: Nothing is going to get rocked by these guys. They sound so bored and unconvincing. And why does the one guy that looks a bit like a monkey think his grunting is wanted or needed? It’s quite horrible actually. And the fact that he can do it mixed with a whiny vocal is even more unappealing. And those back and forth vocals between the members, God… Who thought this was a good idea? It’s just highlighting the lack of chemistry in this group. With crap like this, it’s no wonder Sexy Zone is basically the bottom of the barrel of Johnny’s groups (A.B.C-Z is still even lower though). 1/10

_______________

Recochoku #1 / iTunes #1: Austin Mahone – Dirty Work (not released physically / Billboard #6)

Ronald: What am I supposed to say about this song? It’s basic crap that I would hear on the radio, if I listened to the radio, and would promptly turn off in search of something more palatable. “Dirty Work” is just completely devoid of character or charm. 2/10
