    • Question of the week: What do you think of the album that will probably be the best selling of this year, Namie Amuro’s “Finally”?

I personally find the TK re-recordings jarring due to her vocal change.

      • Zairu

Her voice annoys me to no end. It sounds like a frog. She should’ve kept the originals as is, Chase the Chance is still a bop.

      • eplizo

Some of the re-recordings sound a bit awkward, but idk if it’s just cause I’m used to hearing the original version lol. I appreciate the fact they tried to give some of the songs a new flare. I don’t like the new recording of Break It tho. It lots the flare and feeling of… urgency(?) that it had with the new version. I do enjoy listening to the new version of some songs like Want Me, Want Me and Can’t Sleep, Can’t Eat, I’m Sick just cause those are some all time faves, and I love hearing a 2017 version even if they’re not as well-produced as the original. The new recording of Dr. is genuinely really good imo too.

        • MoMoCHu5360

The new recording of Dr. Is the effing best revision imo.

      • Ash

Still blows me away that it’s gonna be the best selling cause as far as I can tell, every Namie fan left is a pirate :-p

      • MoMoCHu5360

TK? What about Dr though. The revision of that sounds incredible to me. Actually gives me goosebumps now. Although most of the other revisions could have been better.

But wasn’t she forced to re-record the songs? Apparently she didn’t have the rights to use the recordings of anything before pre-Stella88. Which is also why she couldn’t bundle all the MVs in a Blu-ray. Just rumours

        • That doesn’t make sense because the whole song would be owned by another company, not just the vocal.

          • MoMoCHu5360

A label would lease lyrics from a lyricist or publisher, the rights of the lyrics are transferred to the label for a set time period, in which the label would have to complete what they want to do with the lyrics (e.g. record a song), if they do not complete their task in the set time period they can request an extension and pay another fee. The product made by the label would be the property of the label, the rights will eventually revert back to the publisher or lyricist.
If the lyricist or publisher was owned or contracted by the label and it was their job to continuously create new content solely for that label, the lyricist would not have any right to their content.

Similar to script writing and branding. In many cases though, retention of rights can be made by abiding to certain requirements. Perhaps a crude or misplaced example, but I’m going to use 20th Century Fox and the license they currently have for a few Marvel properties. As long as Fox continues to create new movies for the intellectual property, they currently have a license for, every few years, the license will not expire, and ownership will not revert back to Marvel.

Disclaimer: I don’t study this, a friend of mine did some things on copyright holding and she explained some things to me. So for the innumerable amount of holes in my information, I would appreciate any correction.

Does arama have a discord? we need a place to talk shit about our favorite flop divas

      • What is that exactly?

        • gus

You often criticize Japan for being outdated but you yourself don’t know the hottest chatting app on the game right now.

          • I’m not into chatting apps. I’d rather talk to people in person or on the phone. I hate texting. When you’re a conversationalist, things like this happen.

            • yacchaitai

              it’s not text chat only

            • gus

              haha, Im just messing around

          • hasawa

I hope It’s not too complicated to use…
            I’m using Facebook (not personal, only for my fashion brand) since few weeks and I’m S T R U G G L I N G lmao

            • I don’t think it’s complicated to use, you’ll figure it out easily!

        • yacchaitai
          • yacchaitai

since everyone and their grandma has discord now it would be cool to have one for arama, the only j-pop related ones i’ve found are for jpopsuki and random anime weeb ones

            • I guess we can start one.

            • yamakita

I admit, I’ve not heard of Discord until now, but I’m not into online chatting anymore so maybe that’s why.

      • omg arama discord server would be lit

      • pandaapple

omg I was literally about to ask if arama can have a weekly jdrama discussion post but this is even better!

      • Thomas
      • yacchaitai

        it’s on spotify tho

        • Holy s**t Thank you!!!

      • iGleaux

I’m buying it Miyavi works hard enough turning out good music to get a proper album sale from me.

    • Curel

Are any of you planning on trying out Japan’s Orphan Black remake starring Kang Jiyoung? I loved the original with Tatiana Maslany, liked most of KARA’s singles when they were together, have liked most of Jiyoung’s solo songs that I’ve listened to, heard good reviews on her acting, and haven’t watched a not-passable J-drama (yet), so I’m hoping it gets picked up for subbing by someone as I haven’t come across a reason not to try it yet.

      • Ialy

I am. I haven’t watched the original and this one will be good to practice my japanese

    • AkaneHaga

      wondering when arama award start?

          that lip liner

        • this is tragic. LOLLLL
Sad to see Dakota Rose’s downfall, but girl deserves what’s been coming at her

          • hasawa

lol You say it like she’s been at some point on “top”.
Sis always been outed about being a scam, and other for than her blind/naive stan she’s been a laughing stock for years (like all the other camwhore models à la Felice Fawn, Johanna Herrstedt etc). She’s just been smart and expatriated in Japan where ppl didn’t have a clue about her messy past.

Now she seems to pander to pedos since her new PS phase is all about looking like half her age https://scontent-cdg2-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/s640x640/sh0.08/e35/c180.0.720.720/18300158_775732465937367_243281000778432512_n.jpg
Besides, i think she’s lying about her real age on her insta since she’s closer to 25+ than 22..
I remember reading on guru trash forum that she wasn’t really liked within the Popteen models crew and was quite a loner there. It’s been said that even Japanese expressed disapointment after seeing her IRL/live or even on magazine pages where she didn’t have a hand on the photoshopping.
I think her downfall came out from the moment she decided to model IRL and being irremediably exposed for the fraud that she is. Modelling out of a face that isn’t even real is never a good idea.

            • Obligatory itswhatshedeserves.gif

            • Well, as much as I find her trashy and her “lie your way to the top” amusing, she was, at some point, on the “top”. contract with popteen, spoke model for Candydoll, spoke model for etude house, released her own photobook, etc. the things she managed to to with her “5 mins fame” were pretty amazing.
I’m not defending her by the way, gurl deserves this. She’s actually not that bad looking, too bad she’s into deep with the lie and the photoshop life.

              • hasawa

Yeah, she milked off her 15 min pretty well in JAPAN…while the rest of the world kept on laughing their asses off her messy act. A bunch of trashy ass White Wapanese had similar “impressive” career course in Japan (I don’t remember the name of that random White chick that had her own idol/singing career in Japan + photobook as well, if my memory is right) so I don’t find Koti’s THAT outstanding tbh.
I remember being impressed by her contract with Candy Doll though, but even at that time she was already outed so bad in the West barely anyone acknowledged this achievement because most of her fanbase resides in Japan now. She started modelling for Popteen when the magazine was dead a long time ago (the glorious Tsubasa & Kumicky days were long gone T_T) so I feel like it was a desperate move from the magazine to grab back some relevance with some fresh gaijin blood lol

Ultimately, Koti has a fairly substandard career, quite comparale to what any Japanese sub par idol would achieve. Hers is “outstanding” just because she’s a White gaijin, fluent in Japanese and -I’ll give her that- quite constant and lasting with her bullshit lol

    • Juri

Amuro’s million is probably guaranteed in its first week. I have a feeling she’ll surpass SMAP’s sales.

Lol at people who thought she wouldn’t even be able to crack half a mil total.

      • shiryukun

She’ll surpass Koda’s 2nd Session Best by tomorrow, when Oricon closes the 1st week numbers.

      • MoMoCHu5360

But will it make 2 million certification in the first month?

Suggestions needed for a good Jdrama or Jmovie.. Genre: Romance, melodrama, suspense, thriller
Please avoid suggesting horror or any movies which shows extreme violence or human suffering…

        • AoZora

          Thanks,I wil check this.

      • Ayase Haruka’s newest drama is pretty good, I can’t remember the title though

        • AoZora

Hmmm.. Maybe after the drama finishes airing,i will try watching.. Have less patience.. dakara..

      • yamakita

Jmovie: I just watched Scoop! starring Fukuyama Masaharu in which he plays a bit of a scumbag. I think I prefer having him play an elite because I think having a cold exterior is more natural to him. I’m glad I watched the movie, but some of the plots were problematic to me. I really enjoyed watching Yoshida Yo. Nakajima Yuto has great taste in women. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRv3bicFI5A

This is not a jmovie, but it’s based on a Higashino Keigo novel (thanks Reileen!) called Broken (or the Hovering Blade). There is a Japanese version, but I watched the 2014 Korean movie instead. Vigilante justice has never felt better. The story is harrowing and really makes me think of the social fabric and who the law protects. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-MSZTNgIAw

Another Korean movie cuz you said human suffering: Norigae (2013) inspired by the true story of Jang Ja-yeon, the actress from the Korean Boys Over Flowers who committed suicide. It makes me wonder about all the suffering that goes behind the smiles in the Korean entertainment industry. There is one particular scene that haunted me long after I watched it. I’ll let you guess which one. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kW7_XuUmdBM

Jdrama: If you haven’t watch Mondai no Aru Restaurant starring Maki Yoko, please do so!!! I didn’t know anything about her before this drama and now I’m a big fan. It’s such a story of female empowerment that I’m surprised Japan made it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2tcy1DmEhA

All About My Siblings starring Tsumabuki Satoshi and Eita. I actually watched the episodes without a lot of skipping, which means the plot kept my attention for the most part. I remember crying a lot so have your tissues ready.

I’m not sure if asa dora is your thing, but the last one I enjoyed was Asa ga Kita. The ones since haven’t been as good. The first few episodes with that young girl are quite annoying because she bears no resemblance to Haru, but once Haru is on screen the story and the acting get better. This drama made me a fan of Fujioka Dean for like 15 minutes, which leads me to my next recommendation.

Dame na Watashi ni Koishite Kudasai based on one of my favorite manga–I own the entire series. This is one of the very few live-action adaptations that I do not detest. In fact I quite like it. It’s made me a fan of Fukada Kyoko. She was perfect for the role: super adorable and funny. And that yankee character is the true heartthrob.

Finally, Dear Sister starring Ishihara Satomi. This drama showcases the intricacy of a sisterly relationship, which is quite realistic in my opinion. The jealousy, the rivalry, the obligation, and the unbreakable bond. I followed it closely and also cried a lot.

I hope there is something new here for you to watch!

        • AoZora

Thanks for the recommendation:) I will look forward to watching scoop.. I think I will see Fukuyama is a diff type of role.. :)

      • pandaapple

I’ve just started watching Anata no Koto wa Sorehodo, its pretty good so far, but there aren’t any english subs out for it yet. Also if you have netflix Ito-kun A to E is also really good too! Both of them or romance dramas

        • AoZora

Thanks for the suggestions,i will check them…

        • It’s already subbed on d-addict

          • pandaapple

There are subs for Anata no Koto wa Sorehodo??

            • Yes. They’re just uploaded the first ep on Thursday and now it’s already eps 2.

Good news for all Hyphens: It is rumored that Kame will be having a new drama from Jan 18,Fuji TV for a Tuesday 9 PM slot.. I am looking forward to a formal announcement, If this is true, then Kame will have drama after 12 years on Fuji TV.

      http://www.cyzowoman.com/2017/11/post_159373_1.html

      • Reileen

I am so not used to Kame’s drama not being in NTV. Besides, I was hoping for a Yamaneko sequel.
Fuji TV also seems to be doing worse in the dramasphere, but if it is the Kansai TV produced timeslot then there’s hope since they did solid productions that did better in Fuji TV’s drama roster.

Then there’s the KAT-TUN comeback w/c should connect to a Kame drama.

        • AoZora

I was expecting a Yamaneko sequel too.. I really enjoyed that drama.. Hoping this drama has a solid script and comes out well made..
But,I am quite excited about change in TV station for Kame’s drama.. For a long time his dramas were mostly on NTV..

          • Reileen

Who knows, Yamaneko 2 for Spring lol

            • AoZora

              that will be grttttttttt :)

          • Yamaneko 2 isn’t complete without Narimiya though :(((

            • AoZora

yesss.. I really miss narimiya.. If he was around,I think a sequel to Yamaneko was very much on the card

        • yamakita

I want to hear more!!! This kind of stuff should be brought to daylight so people understand that celebrities are no one special. No one is as kin as they poop.

          Edit: kin=long. Damn iPhone.

          • AoZora

            Yes,you are right…

      • yamakita

I was waiting to hear about Jackie Chan first, but George beat him to it. He is scheduled to cry about his Japanese American roots at the Aratani theater in LA in April…hmm, I wonder if everyone will just pretend nothing is happening 🤔

      Today’s watch : Museum
Starring Oguri Shun and Tsumabuki Satoshi
      Trailer : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-Km8WTRsnw
My take: The movie is good and watchable but not that great, firstly because I have seen the same Oguri Shun’s expressions that I saw in Border and secondly because there was no much suspense held till the end(my expectations). A story of a cop having a troubled personal life and later taking matter into his own hands(wrt his job) despite higher ups asking him to stay away from the case.. A insomniac with past memories haunting him Ono Machiko plays the perfect housewife/mom having problems with her husband. How this family comes together again after facing through haunting memories of being kidnapped, threatened and coming very close to getting killed.. Will this cop have normal life afterwards? Maybe we need to wait for a sequel to get an answer.. It has a creepy end suggesting something is not smooth..

I was just wondering ..Do cops in Japan have so much work at hand that their family life takes a beating?… Why it has to be that work takes priority over family? The cop’s life is certainly stressful.. Either feel guilty for not catching criminal or feel guilty for not able to give time to your family.. I am seeing such pattern getting repeated in many police based dramas/movies that i have seen…

      • yamakita

Argh, too bad that I hate Oguri, most overrated entertainer and don’t understand why he is popular.

        • Azura Of Ylisse

          Oguri is bae.
And a very good actor. ❤️

        • AoZora

imao,Oguri has many hit movies and dramas to his credit. Gintama being the latest… As per me he is really a good actor. My only problem was in this movie,a bit of his character matched with Border.. Maybe I was expecting suspense till the end,,,

        • King Hide

i think most of his fans from hanayori dango or crows zero era. in my country he is known for genji from crows zero because memes

          • yamakita

I remember him from Hana Kimi and was annoyed he was the lead. I can’t think of anything he’s been in that I’ve liked. His personal life has more drama than his work.

      • King Hide

i watched it in cinema couple months ago and for me this is bad movie, the only good thing just the cinematography and one ok pop hype

    • if you are on a Nogizaka / Keyakizaka hype train, hype this!
