Sandaime J Soul Brothers Top Nikkei Entertainment’s 2017 Concert Mobilization Power Ranking

Every year, Nikkei Entertainment releases a ranking based on concert attendance in Japan, ranking acts based on the overall amount of people who attended their shows over the course of the year. This ranking is based on seating capacity for venues, not necessarily tickets sold.

Sandaime J Soul Brothers topped the ranking this year with 1,803,000 attendees at 37 concerts. They were followed by Big Bang with 1,022,000 attendees at 20 concerts. Third place went to Kanjani8 with 990,000 attendees at 20 concerts.

Idk for their recent music, but I really want to see 3JSB live tbh lol.

      • So they can strip?

        • eplizo

          basically.

          • so straightforward… But don`t worry your not the only one…

        • ongakui

          Count me in

        • Macaron

But do be fair all male idols do the stripping thing, just that 3JSB has more eye pleasing bodies😏
😂 Jk in all fairness their dance is really good

    • AkaneHaga

are they not count theater perf for akb? pretty sure they should in the list

      • Kanjo Maru

They do. But even 300 theatre shows (I’m sure it’s closer to 200) would only be 60,000 or so guests.

        • AkaneHaga

so many of them looklike converted to sakamichi series then

          • Kanjo Maru

I’m not sure I follow but I should probably expand on my earlier comment. Yes, theatre counts but IIRC theatre shows have about 220 seats. At probably around 250 shows per year that’s still only 60k at most from theatre. I can’t recall any big concerts this year so there probably weren’t many.

            • AkaneHaga

              thats explain

      Kana Nishino – 55k (4)
      G-Dragon – 51.8k (5)
      Big Bang – 51.1k (20)

      KinkI Kids – 47.86k (7)
      Arashi – 46.8k (18)
      Paul McCartney – 44.75k (4)

      • Kanjo Maru

Where the hell have Tohoshinki been playing?

        • mathsme

ikr? what big ass venues get them 59.1k for 11 concerts? Also Kana Nishino 55k with only 4 concerts compared to Arashi 47k with 18 concerts

          • Kanjo Maru

Nothing weird about doing a concert with 60k guests, but Japan has so few of those venues so the *average* being around 60k is just crazy

            • Guest

nevermind, it’s wrong. their average per concert is 51.9k.

              • Kanjo Maru

                I got 46,850.

                3x Kyocera: 109,431
                2x Fukuoka: 77122
                1x Sapporo: 53796
                5x Tokyo: 275000
                Total 515,319
                Average 46,850.

Not trying to dig at Tohoshinki personally. Just the list.

                • Guest

For concerts, Fukuoka has 42k capacity. Osaka Dome has 51k. Tokyo Dome 55k (max). Sapporo 54k (no wonder it’s almost impossible to sell out). It’s still a bit less than 571k. maybe they did an arena?

                  • Guest

                    84k in Fukuoka + 153k in Osaka + 54k in Sapporo + 275k in Tokyo = 566k. maybe they played a 5k hall at some point?

                    • Kanjo Maru

But that would be more than 11 concerts.

                      • j

I remembered tthey just announced on the 1st day in Sapporo that they adding 3 days (?) in Osaka for Tohoshinki tour

                      • l-na

3 additional concerts in Osaka will be in 2018. Plus 3 concerts in Nagoya. This rating does not consider all their concerts for the tour. Only 2017 year.

                  • Kaya

Only truly popular performers sold out Sapporo. Apart from Arashi, who else has managed to achieve this? Mr. Children?

                    • SMAPsan

Probably only SMAP, KinKi Kids & Arashi who is able to fill Sapporo before. Probably Dream Come True as well. I dont think Mr. Children managed to do that before as their concert venues are usually small.

                    • the groupie who

Kanjani8, and they tour Sapporo dome every single year. Even when there was a massive cancellation of flights the night previous to a concert and several eighters couldnt travel to Hokkaido they managed to do the concert with an 80% of the capacity.

                    • l-na

I remember j-pop fans were very surprised that Tohoshinki sold out Sapporo dome. At least before their military service it was like this.

                  • l-na

No, Tohoshinki didn’t arenas this time. It is more likely that Nikkei counts different capacities then we. For example, Kanjani8 have about 973k for 20 concerts not 990k. Arashi have about 830k for 18 concerts not 844. The same with others))

                • I’m very impressed! They did all the Dome concerts except for Nagoya. I wonder whether it is a full house concert or not.

                • l-na

3x Kyocera: 109,431 <- this one is wrong))
36k is for baseball games, for concerts Kyocera usually counts as 40k or more, maximum capacity 51k. At least Nikkei count like this. For every artist of course. 54k for 1 concert in Sapporo, 42k for 1 concert in Fukuoka.
Actually in such ratings Tohoshinki's numbers are usually one of the most creaditable. And close to sold out tickets))
It's more interesting how BigBang got 1 million, when even the maximum capacity of their venues is between 800-900k.

          • Guest

that’s the average per concert. Kana Nishino only did Tokyo and Osaka, which have bigger domes, while Arashi also played Sapporo, Fukuoka and Nagoya,

        • Guest

it’s a 5 dome tour but maybe they probably either have a smaller stage or a circular stage

        • MJBeatle

I don’t know how Nikkei does its measurement, but it’s not a list you want to depend on. Same goes for other acts as well. They also count everything as maximum occupancy. There should be a chart that measures how many tickets were actually sold lol.

        PRICES:
        Tohoshinki: ¥10,800/¥11,800/¥24,800
        Kana Nishino: ¥7,800
        G-Dragon: ¥10,800
        Big Bang: ¥12,000
        Kanjani8: ¥8,600
        3JSB: ¥11,000
        Kinki Kids: ¥9,000
        Arashi: ¥9,000
        Paul McCartney: ¥18,000/¥16,000/¥14,000

        • Kaya

          Arashi’s tickets are cheap

          • Kanjo Maru

By these standards, yes. But really they’re stupidly expensive.

          • anoushka

Coz the only way to get them, atleast legitimately, is through the fanclub by balloting and you’ll be competing with 2M+ FC members. For those people who didn’t hit, they can also get them through middle man websites and for those really desperate – through scalpers, and tickets bought through these sell for 2x up to 10x the original price.

        • Bobson Dugnutt

That’s crazy that Japanese people go to concerts to acts they’re not necessarily fans of when the prices are so high.

        • Any idea how much Ayu’s concert ticket cost? She is doing in live house so the ticket must be hella expensive.

        *CORRECTED
        AVERAGE/CONCERT
        Kana Nishino – 55k (4)
        Tohoshinki – 51.9k (11)
        G-Dragon – 51.8k (5)
        Big Bang – 51.1k (20)
        Kanjani8 – 49.5k (20)
        3JSB – 49.46k (37)
        KinkI Kids – 47.86k (7)
        Arashi – 46.8k (18)
        Paul McCartney – 44.75k (4)

Kana Nishino has the bigger average because she only played the two biggest Domes. Paul McCartney would probably have the same average but it’s brought down by the fact he also played the Budokan, which is much, much smaller.

    • maguro part deux

Fukada Kohei and Hikawa Kiyoshi are the hardest working men in show business.

    • I’m suprised that out of 50 names, only 6 are females/mixed groups. Shocking!

    • SL589

      No Amuro?

    • B’z is Japan best selling act so I wondered why they only do live in small venues. I personally think they should to Dome Tour every year. Same as Mr. Children.

      • Bobson Dugnutt

Some acts don’t like playing in domes. I forget why. I think maybe something about wanting to be closer to the fans in a smaller venue or maybe something about the acoustics.

      • Christoffer

It’s was a special intimate tour during the summer in cities they don’t usually play in.

They should have include Sapporo Dome in their tour as well so they can complete their 5 Domes Tour. :D

    • WorldGN18

Happy to see Momusu there, my girls are really working hard, and I’m a bit concerned about Kouheu and Kiyoshi, I hope they are not overworking too much …
